10 Reasons Why I Love Moringa
The list is really endless, but I'd only bore you...
The reasons are many - and I discover more of them weekly! You know, when you LOVE something, it is often difficult to say why, but Moringa makes it easy.
Moringa is a fast growing plant. We have had some of our Moringa trees grow over 20 feet tall their first year!
You can start to eat its leaves as early as 3 weeks from planting the seeds - but you won't get many that way!
Moringa leaves are just delicious, right off the tree, raw- the best way to eat them!
Their leaves grow "clean" and if I strip a lot of them off the branches, to eat in a meal, they require minimal rinsing. When I eat them right off the tree, I never rinse them at all!
The nutrition God packed into Moringa leaves is legendary. Merely eating its leaves has been scientifically proven to dramatically affect one's health, and I have seen some incredible results from eating it, in my own body.
Moringa can be grown as an annual in cold climates. or as a perennial in warm ones. Being a heat-loving tree, Moringa doesn't like cold temperatures, at all. My Moringa Oleiferas and Moringa Stenopetalas should really not still be alive, after this last cold winter, but - they live!
There are so many other things that I love about Moringa, but the main thing is that you can help others get extreme nutrition into their bodies, with a humble, incredible tree - that is safe for infants and adults, alike!
It is so easy to grow, even a child can do it, and it is a LOT of fun for them to see how fast it grows!
Moringa leaves are easier to prepare than just about any green I've eaten.
Moringa can be incorporated into the natural landscaping of any hot climate, and it is especially beneficial to many poverty-stricken nations, to combat malnutrition.
A little Moringa - goes a LONG way!
We have only cited TEN REASONS WHY WE LOVE MORINGA, when there are actually hundreds, but it's hard to swallow a whole meal at one time!
So,... I'll let you do some investigating on your own, as Moringa has people who passionately love it, all over the world!

Moringa oleifera a plant base source of essential amino acids.
Proteins (chain of amino acids) are complex organic compounds. While most amino acids can be synthesised by the human body from the food we consume, the essential amino acids have to be consumed from external sources.
There are two classifications for Protein containing food. The classifications are complete or incomplete and are in accordance to whether the food has all the eight (8) essential amino acids or some of the essential amino acids. Unfortunately, most of the complete protein containing foods are animal based such as, meat, eggs, milk, poultry and, as we now know from scientific researches, too much consumption of meat products can contribute to many health problems such as cholesterol, hypertension, gout and so on. The other alternative is to consume soybean, the only know protein complete plant base food or to consume a combined diet of a number of incomplete plant based protein food such as beans, rice, and corn and so on.
Although soybean is a good source of complete protein, Moringa oleifera has higher content of essential amino acids. Regular consumption of Moringa health supplements will certainly help to keep the body's immune system in good form and efficient.
The table below shows the value of amino acids in 100gm of raw mature soybean seeds and in 100gm of fresh Moringa oleifera leaves:

Human beings tend to be lazy and are always looking for quick and easy ways to accomplish things. Consuming soybeans for its essential amino acids requires substantial efforts as soybean needs to be cooked before it can be consumed. With Moringa oleifera, you can actually consume it raw and fresh. It is as simple as eating it like a salad or if you have access to its dried leaf powder, it can be simply sprinkled over the food before consuming the food or in capsule form.
Moringa oleifera leaves can be eaten raw. It is a little "spicey" and is best eaten raw with other salad leaves and some dressing such as Italian dressing.
Moringa dried leaf powder can be sprinkled over any food before it is consumed to enjoy the benefits of its rich source of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. The powder can also be made into a dip as a side-dish or even be capsulised to be taken as a health supplement.
Science has confirmed that consumption of Moringa oleifera leaves can help reduce cholesterol.
For many years, in India, the leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree were used as an herbal remedy to help reduce cholesterol with great success by traditional medicine practitioners. This wonderful remedy would have simply remained just an unproven herbal remedy if not for the great interest in Moringa oleifera tree generated by its rediscovery by those NGOs in their fight to eradicate malnutrition in Africa.
With the growing interest in the tree, there are now many independent universities conducting scientific research on the many herbal remedies of Moringa oleifera. Consumption of Moringa oleifera leaves as Moringa health supplements can help reduce cholesterol. Now, we have scientific evidence to show that the leaves of the Moringa oleifera leaves can really reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. Although these studies are conducted in vitro and in vivo at university laboratories, they are conducted independently (that is not paid by interest groups) and are published in respected scientific journals.
In one study published in the 1Journal of Ethnopharmacology in year 2000, the crude leaf extract of Moringa oleifera was administered to rats fed with a high fat diet. In this study, it was found that Moringa oleifera leaf extract decreases the high fat diet induced cholesterol in the rats’ serum, liver and kidney by significant amounts as much as 14.4% for serum, 6.4% for liver and 11.1% for kidney respectively. This research concluded that the leaves of Moringa oleifera have hypocholesterolemic (low cholesterol) activity and supports the traditional use of the Moringa oleifera leaves for treating cholesterol.
In another study published in the 2Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences in year 2008, the research work compared the effects of Moringa oleifera leaves extract with the commercial drug Atenolol on serum triglyceride and cholesterol, blood glucose, heart weight and body weight in adrenaline induced rats. The study shows that Moringa oleifera leaves has profound hypolipidemic (low lipid) activity significantly lowering of blood glucose, heart weight and body weight. The researchers concluded that Moringa oleifera may be used as herbal drugs or as health supplement in the treatment of different cardiovascular complications due to high lipids in the body.
Moringa oleifera is truly a “miracle tree” and if you have the opportunity to plant it in your garden then I strongly urge you to do so and to include the leaves at as many meals that you are able to.

Benefits of HighHill Moringa Leaf Powder
Moringa powder is made from the freshly harvested leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree. Fresh Moringa powder has a deep green color and a rich nutty smell. The nutrient-packed powder is soft and fluffy when it is pure and grown in organic conditions. It dissolves easily into water or juice and is an excellent ingredient in a variety of healthy recipes.
Making Moringa Powder
Our 100% pure and organic Moringa powder is created from the fresh young leaves of organic Moringa trees. We harvest these trees every few months when they reach a height of approximately five feet. Moringa trees are second in the world only to bamboo in their speed of growth, and cutting the trees back stimulates a vigorous return of plant tissue and increased leaf production.
We remove the harvested leaves from their branches and sterilize them using environmentally safe ozone water. The remaining branches are composted and recycled back into the Moringa plantation. After the leaves are cleaned, they are dried at low temperatures, which insures that the vital nutrients, some of which are heat sensitive, remain preserved in the fresh leaf tissue.
When the leaves have dried to a sufficient level, they are pulverized until the plant tissue reaches a fine powder consistency. This powder is then screened for impurities before it’s packaged into capsules or sealed in bags. Once the powder has been packaged, it will remain fresh for several months, retaining nutritional value of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and complete amino acids.
Our Moringa powder is pure and contains no other ingredients. Watch out for Moringa powders that are cut or diluted with cheap fillers such as teas and grass powders. We provide only 100% pure and organic Moringa leaf powder.

How to Grow a Moringa Tree
For edible landscaping, a Moringa tree is hard to beat. This versatile tree can be ground year-round in any tropical climate, and as an annual in temperate zones. Fast-growing, nutritious, and lovely to behold, Moringa is gaining in popularity daily. What could be easier than walking into your yard, and gathering healthy greens to put on the table?
Steps
- Obtain some Moringa seeds from one of the many fine sources that sell them. There are several varieties, but the seeds of Moringa Oleifera and Moringa Stenopetala are the easiest to obtain. For a fast-growing tree that will bear leaves, blossoms and seed pods - called drumsticks, the first year - choose Moringa Oleifera. If you want a fast-growing tree with much larger leaves, making the task of gathering them for a meal easier, opt for Moringa Stenopetala. The flowers and seed pods take longer to develop on the African variety of Moringa - Moringa Stenopetala. Moringa Oleifera seeds are round, brown, and winged. Moringa Stenopetala seeds, out of their husk, are almond-shaped and light tan in color. The seeds are very different, but they both grow Moringa trees. In actuality, the seeds are basically the same size; but, you can see they are not alike, in appearance.
- Decide where you would like to grow your Moringa tree. Keep in mind that Moringa trees can grow over 20 feet tall, their first year. The average growth is about 15 feet, however, in optimum conditions, they can grow much taller. Because the branches will grow, on the average, to about three to four feet wide the first year, you will need to consider whether you want to plant your Moringa tree close to any existing structures. Moringas need a lot of sunlight, warmth, and water, in order to thrive - so think about where your tree will obtain the best exposure to the sun.
- Get the best organic potting soil that you can find. Moringas do not like heavy, clay-like soil or vermiculite. They will grow in poor soil, sandy soil, and depleted soil, but they do not like their roots getting wet. Bear this in mind, and if necessary, purchase sand to add to the potting soil mixture, or use whatever soil is available in your area, and add coconut coir, peat moss, perlite, or sand to loosen it. This gives the roots of the Moringa tree room to spread out, go deep, and drain well.
- Make a hole in the soil, and plant the Moringa seeds about ¾" to 1" deep, cover with soil, and tamp it into place. Make a note of when you planted the seed or seeds, so you can monitor their growth. Once you have covered the seeds, thoroughly water the soil. Whether you plant the seeds in pots, or right into the ground, they will need a thorough soaking every day, until you see the seedling emerge from the soil. Once they have sprouted, they can be watered once every other day, until they are about 18 inches tall. Then, once a week will be sufficient. Some people soak the seeds in water until they sprout, and then plant them. This method also works, but Moringa seeds are very hardy, and do not really need this additional step.
- Moringa can be grow as a solitary tree, in rows, or as a hedge. If you would like to grow it as a hedge, plant the seeds into the ground, about 1 foot apart. Pinch back every other new leaf growth, to force the tree to grow like a bush, and once they are about 2 feet tall, cut the branches in half lengthwise, and pinch back the new leaf growth that will sprout out at the top of the Moringa tree. If you are going to grow your Moringas in rows, then plant the seeds about 3 feet apart, in rows that are at least 6 feet apart, for easy weed removal and walking through the rows. If you are going to grow your Moringa as a solitary tree, just remember to give it plenty of room, so its branches can spread out. Periodically, cut back the top of the tree, to encourage new growth, and cut the branches' length back, by half. This will insure that your Moringas thrive, and give you lots of beautiful flowers, edible leaves, and drumsticks - for years to come.
Tips
- The leaves are edible, and there are many places, online, that will tell you how to incorporate them into your diet.
- The flowers buds and blossoms can be cooked slightly and eaten, as a nourishing vegetable.
- Keep those pruning shears handy, as the more you prune them, the faster they will grow.
- Maintain your Moringa tree at a height of about 6 feet maximum, if you wish to be able to reach its harvest.
- Worldwide, some people eat the root. Do not eat the root. It tastes like horseradish, but the root's bark contains a powerful neurotoxin. In large enough quantities, it can be fatal. Leave the roots alone.
- Constantly trim your Moringas. If you do not, you will eventually have a very tall, very thin tree, with branches at the very top; inaccessible, and unattractive.
- The leaves, pods, flowers buds, blossoms, and seeds can all be eaten. The flower buds and blossoms must be cooked, the seeds should be cooked, but the leaves can be eaten raw or cooked.
- Moringa seeds.
- Loose potting soil.
- A sunny location for the Moringas.
- Water
- Pruning shears or scissors

HighHill Moringa Powder
Moringa Powder | Moringa Leaf Powder Benefits
This powder is then screened for impurities before it’s packaged and sealed in plastic.

How to Make 1.5 Million In 4 Months Planting Or Selling (moringa Oleifera)
The moringa plant (Moringa oleifera) is known worldwide for its nutritional and medicinal benefits and industrial uses.
Almost every part of the moringa plant has nutritional value. The pod is cooked as a vegetable in India and exported to many countries for Indian expatriates, fresh or canned. The root can be used as substitute for horseradish. Foliage is eaten as greens, boiled, fried, in soups or for seasoning.
Dried leaf powder can be added to any kind of meal as a nutritional supplement.
The seed can be roasted and eaten like a peanut. The seeds can be used as a flocculent to clarify water and as a source of a non-drying and very stable oil, known as Ben oil.
This oil, which was once used for lubricating watches and other delicate machinery, is clear, sweet and odourless, almost never going rancid. It is edible and it is becoming increasingly popular in the cosmetics industry. Leaves and young branches are used as fodder.
Moringa may also be used in fish and poultry feeds. Moringa young plants are available at HighHill Moringa Farm at N350 per stand or call 018435511 or 08065220074. Also a detailed feasibility study is also available.
Processing:
Processing should start immediately after harvesting and transporting the leaves to the processing point.
1. Stripping the leaflets
Strip all the leaflets from the leaf petiole. This can be done directly from the branches if the leaves have not been stripped off the main branch before transportation. At this stage, diseased and damaged leaves are discarded.
2. Washing
Wash leaflets in troughs using clean potable water to remove dirt. Wash leaves again in 1% saline solution for 3-5 minutes to remove microbes. Finally wash again in clean water. Leaves are now ready for drying. Drain each trough after each wash: fresh leaves must always be washed with fresh water.
3. Draining
Strain water from the leaves in buckets that have been perforated, spread leaflets on trays made with food-grade mesh and leave to drain for 15 minutes before taking them to the dryer.
4.Drying
There are three main methods for drying moringa leaves.
Room drying
Spread the leaflets thinly on mesh tied on racks (mosquito net mesh can be used) in a well-ventilated room. This room should be insect, rodent and dust proof. Air circulation can be improved by using ceiling and floor level vents protected with a clean filter to keep the sun and dust out. It is possible to use a fan, but the air must not be directly oriented towards the leaves, as it can increase contamination with germs in the air. It is advisable to turn the leaves over at least once, with sterile gloves, to improve uniformed drying. Leaves should be completely dry within a maximum of 4 days. The loading density should not exceed 1 kg/m2. However, room-dried leaves cannot be mould-free guaranteed with the maximum recommended moisture content of 10 per cent. Therefore, we do not advise this method.
Solar drying
Spread the leaves thinly on mesh and dry in the dryer for about 4 hours (Temperature range is 35°C–55°C on a very sunny day). The final product should be very brittle. We recommend solar drying for both small and large scale processing, particularly for those in rural communities where there is no electricity. Loading density should not exceed 2 kg/m2.
Mechanical drying
Use electric or gas hot-air dryers. Drying temperatures should range between 50°C and 55°C. If temperature exceeds 55°C, leaves will “burn” and turn brown. Leaves should be dried until their moisture content is below 10%. We recommend this method for large scale leaf processing as this ensures year round production. Loading density should not exceed 2.5 kg/m2.
5. Milling
Mill dry leaves using a stainless steel hammer mill. For personal or household use, leaves can be pounded in a mortar, or milled with a kitchen blender. Small-scale processors can use a burr mill or rent a commercial hammer mill for routine milling of their products.
6. Sieving
Sieve the leaf powder if need be. When you mill with a hammer mill, the fineness of the product will depend on the size of the screen used in milling. If too coarse, sift using a sifter with the desired screen size.
Moringa leaf powder can easily be contaminated by moulds as it strongly attracts moisture.
Income from moringa powder production:
Recommendation:
Planting: 200 plants per plot. 3,000 stands per hectare.
At four months, one tree can yield 1 kilogram of moringa powder. A kilogram of moringa powder is between N5,000 – N7,500.
Expected income form I hectare: N5, 000 X 3,000Moringa stands =N1, 500,000.
